GALLOWAY COUNTRY FAIR STICK SHOW 2011
This year’s Galloway Country Fair Crookmaking show will be run by members and friends of the Lockerbie Crookmaking Club. The event will continue to receive sponsorship, rosettes and support from Mr. Martin Hyslop, of the Highland Horn Company. Unfortunately The Highland Horn Company will not be in attendance, again not through choice, but owing to ongoing circumstances. The competition event will as before, take place on Sunday 21st. Members of Lockerbie Crook making club may demonstrate the craft of crookmaking on the Saturday, hope to offer sticks and related items for sale on Saturday and possibly Sunday. Sponsorship donations for classes have so far been received from Mrs and Mrs Dane Love, Mr and Mrs Jim Weir and The Scottish Crookmaking Society. Sponsorship has also been received from Galloway Country Fair.
The enthusiasm and support shown by members of the Lockerbie Crook making Club and the stalwart Mr Jim Weir when running the competition last year was wonderful. Mr.& Mrs. Denis and Linda Wall from Cumbria, along with members of other clubs were of considerable help throughout the competition. It is hoped that the tremendous number of sticks entered in this event over the years can be maintained and built upon as the Show moves forward.
Last year there were a few small changes to the classes, some have been amalgamated and two new classes have been added. The new classes are intended to attract ladies who make sticks and youngsters who are making sticks. Competition information.
