Description
GREYHOUNDS MAKE GREAT PETS
D&CGR is a small local charity
that receives no financial support from National or Local Government
or from the Racing Industry itself. As an animal welfare charity,
they are barred from applying from Lottery grants. It is run by
volunteers and it's aim is to re-home ex-racing or coursing greyhounds into a
domestic environment.
In their 6 years of existence, thay
have re-homed over 350 greyhounds, have become an established part of the
animal welfare "scene" and have recruited supporters from all over
Dumfries and Galloway and Cumbria.
D&CGR do not have kennels as
such but operate a system of "foster carers" who look after the
greyhounds on a temporary basis until a permanent home can be found.

The picture above shows Graham Hill (Ancient
Scot) and Al Todd (Roman soldier) at the finishing post at Bowness on
Solway following their gruelling 5 day sponsored walk of Hadrians Wall from Wallsend near
Newcastle upon Tyne and being met by some members and their greyhounds.
The pair raised over £2000 towards the charity's funds.
