2010-stick-making.jpgWhilst the competitive Stick Show event is only on Sunday, for Saturday there’s a Stickmakers display and workshop.

Full details about the competition, the different classes and how to enter can be found by clicking here .

The Lockerbie Crook Makers have been in existence for over 50 years and has been running as a night class by Dumfries and Galloway Council for over 40 years.

Due to a change in policy by the Dumfries and Galloway Council, the crook making night classes support was dropped by the Council. (From the information available to us, it would seem that Lockerbie formed one of the very first Crook making groups in Scotland and has continued to exist since then.)

For this interest to remain, a Club had, at very short notice, to be formed. We are still permitted, at the moment, to use the Lockerbie Academy but the costs are appreciable. Members of the club are of both genders, come from a large area and presently age from twelve to very senior citizens.

A good number of our members are still school and Academy pupils. We have found that the club meetings encourage very positive respectful social interaction between young and not so young, both are seen to help each other.   We feel the need to encourage the young as they are the crook makers of the future and their enthusiastic attendance is most commendable.
